Winter's last gasp (maybe)

Today may be the last snowfall of the season in eastern Pennsylvania. I'm a little disappointed. We probably won't break our annual record for snow, which is a shame because we put up with a lot and won't have anything to show for it.

Mind you, I'm not fond of winter or snow. Right now, we have accumulated 66.7 inches (169 centimeters) of snow this season, 8.5 inches shy of our record, which was set in 1993-94. Today's forecasts are for 3 to 8 inches, with the lower end of the spectrum most likely to prevail. We usually can't count on much snow in March.

My brother in Buffalo gets an average each year of 96.1 inches (244 centimeters), roughly 20 inches more we have ever recorded. Schools in Buffalo usually don't close if 2 or 3 inches of snow are forecast. For us, such a storm would mean school closings or delayed starting times. We're such wimps here in eastern Pennsylvania.

Anyway, snow and cold needn't keep men from shedding their clothes outdoors (at least for a little while). But wouldn't be it nicer to spend an entire day tramping naked along the beach or through the woods? Patience. Summer will be here soon.
