Republicans, led by the Tea Party, vowed to shut down the federal government until they got the concessions they demanded from President Obama. Of all the things they wanted, they got nothing.
In the meantime, the Tea Party Republicans cost Americans $24 billion, according to an analysis from Standard and Poor's. The figure includes (among other things) lost wages to government workers and contractors, lost income from tourism to the national parks and denial of government services to people who needed help, such as lost daycare assistance to the spouses of military service people.
